When you create a ScrapeMap you have a choice of three different types of ScrapeMap - FreeForm, List, and Table. The type you need depends on how the specific source data is structured and what data you want ScrapeMate web scraper to scrape.
Once you have set the type of ScrapeMap, this cannot be changed. The Type will significantly impact the way data is targeted for scraping. If you need a different type, you will need to create a new ScrapeMap. For example uses of these 3 types, see the “How To” section in the ScrapeMate Learning Center.
FreeForm ScrapeMaps allow you to scrape unique data points from your data source. This can be useful if you want detailed data for one specific target. See the FreeForm ScrapeMap example in the “How To”.
List ScrapeMaps allow the user to target numerous instances of the identified data. This type of ScrapeMap is ideal when the data source contains multiple sets of the same kind of data such as in a list of search results. List types enable more capabilities like “Browse-To” to not only capture the items in the list, but also drill down for more detail on each item. See the List ScrapeMap example in the “How To”.
Table ScrapeMaps enable the user to quickly target all data and headers in an HTML table for web scraping. It is worth noting that data sometimes appears to be in a Table even though it does NOT actually reside in an HTML table. In these instances you should scrape the data using a List ScrapeMap. If you create a Table Type ScrapeMap and click within the body of the table and all the table columns are not brought into the ScrapeMap Wizard, the data is likely in List form. You will need to create a new List type ScrapeMap. Table ScrapeMaps do not have drill down (Browse-To) capability. See the Table ScrapeMap example in the “How To”.
